Supercharge

Config

config.toml, environment variables, and which layer wins

Config

Main file: ~/.supercharge/config.toml. If it is missing, built-in defaults are used. Create it by running /setup, or edit it yourself.

Other files:

FileRole
~/.supercharge/managed_config.tomlDefaults shipped by an admin. Under your config.toml.
requirements.tomlOrg pin. Clamps every layer below it, including overlays.
~/.supercharge/pager.tomlTerminal UI details such as scrollback fold behavior.
.supercharge/workflows/*.rhaiWorkflows for this repo.
~/.supercharge/workflows/*.rhaiWorkflows for your user.
AGENTS.mdInstructions for the agent in a directory. Nearer files apply to that subtree.

What wins

Highest priority first:

  1. CLI flags (--yolo, --model, --sandbox)
  2. Environment variables (not the provider API key)
  3. requirements.toml / device management
  4. SUPERCHARGE_CONFIG or SUPERCHARGE_CONFIG_PATH overlay
  5. config.toml
  6. managed_config.toml
  7. Built-in defaults

SUPERCHARGE_CONFIG is a JSON object. SUPERCHARGE_CONFIG_PATH is an extra JSON or TOML file. The inline JSON wins if both are set. The overlay is deep-merged and only a small allowlist of soft settings is kept (models, features, a narrowed toolset, and shell environment filters). It cannot set the API key or turn trust off.

SUPERCHARGE_CONFIG='{"models":{"default_reasoning_effort":"high"}}' supercharge -p "Review the change"

Useful keys

[cli]
auto_update = true

[models]
default = "your-model-id"
temperature = 0.7
top_p = 0.95
max_completion_tokens = 8192

[ui]
vim_mode = false
show_thinking_blocks = true
remember_tool_approvals = true
screen_mode = "fullscreen"

[session]
auto_compact_threshold_percent = 85

[dashboard]
enabled = true

[memory]
enabled = false

[ui] screen_mode is the default for a new supercharge. /minimal and --minimal change only the current session. Set the default from /settings → Default screen mode.

[memory] enabled or SUPERCHARGE_MEMORY=1 turns on the experimental memory v2 commands (/memory, /flush, /dream). Curated USER.md / MEMORY.md notes are separate and on by default. See Memory.
